King Edward VIII Gave Up The Throne For His Wife
The uncle of Queen Elizabeth II, Edward VIII, became King in 1936. But his rule was really short because he wanted to marry Wallis Simpson, so he renounced it.
At the time, this was an enormous scandal because Wallis Simpson had been married two times and the Church of England forbade their wedding.
She was more important to him than reign and everything else, so he abdicated and they got married. The couple remained married until Edward’s death in 1972.
