Treskilling Yellow Stamp
The Treskilling Yellow stamp is a Swedish postage stamp that holds the world’s record auction sales price for a single postage stamp. In the 1800s Swedish currency was known as a “skilling”. The normal skilling stamp printed in Sweden should be green where the 8th skilling stamp was printed in yellow. However, due to an unknown mistake in 1855, because the three skiling was accidentally replaced by eight skilling one, the three skilling stamp was printed in yellow. The only one copy in existence of the Threeskilling Yellow was discovered by Georg Wilhelm Beckman in 1886. The stamp made headlines in 1984 when it was sold for $1.07 million, while in 1996 it was sold again for $2.875 million.
